Theseus Roche started with Manhattan Youth in 2001 as the founding director of our middle school after-school program at IS 289, whose original purpose was to provide therapeutic services in a safe space to Downtown teens in the aftermath of the events of September 11. His even-handed leadership and creative vision soon led him to assume the role of the first Director of After-School Programs, overseeing a portfolio of three elementary schools and one middle school, and shifting Manhattan Youth's focus from childcare to informal education. Over the next decade, as the Lower Manhattan community grew, he built comprehensive after-school programs in an additional three elementary schools and two middle schools Downtown. In 2014, the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development’s middle school expansion program provided an opportunity for Manhattan Youth to spread the brand of high quality programming to other parts of New York City. Theseus built relationships with dozens of school principals and developed contracts to serve several thousand children in more than 20 additional school sites, making Manhattan Youth a household name not just in Lower Manhattan, but across the city. Theseus holds a BFA in Theater Arts and Film from SUNY Purchase.

Brad joins Manhattan Youth after successfully directing the after-school and summer programs at the Franciscan Community Center on the upper west side. Before diving in to the after-school world, Brad taught high school in both Long Island City and Seattle. During his Seattle years (sipping great coffee and enjoying seafood) he also gained valuable experience with Amazon doing customer service and in another tech company in a sales role. Yet education and serving kids and families remained his central passion which he brought to New York City when he and his wife moved here in 2013. During his spare time, Brad enjoys travel whenever possible, tennis, running, cheering on his hometown Seattle sports teams, and taking in all variety of arts and culture (and food) around NYC
