On June 19, 1865, enslaved Black Americans in Texas were emancipated and given their freedom. This day is known as Juneteenth. This meaningful occasion honors the bravery and determination of Black Americans, reminding us of their remarkable journey. On this day, the country reflects on this important moment in history, with parades, picnics, music, and opportunities to learn about the history of slavery and the ongoing fight for equality.
