Our Advanced Swim Training class is geared towards our most skilled adult swimmers. From timed intervals and individualized workout sets, to technique corrections and teaching advanced strokes, our swim coaches can help you achieve your swimming goals.

Designed to strengthen and tone the entire body, our Barre classes offer an amazing low impact workout that will leave you sculpted, toned, and feeling stronger. Barre combines strength training and cardio to burn fat and build muscle at the same time! Our classes are fun, empowering and all set to today's best music.
These beginner swim lessons offer more personal instruction and a progressive curriculum for children who are ready to take the plunge! Along with increased comfort in the water, children learn basic breath control and arm and leg movements. Through a more structured class setting, swimmers are introduced to swim vocabulary used throughout all levels of our Learn-to-Swim program and learn to independently follow the lead of the instructor. After completion of the Begin2Swim program, swimmers may be ready to move up to the first level of our Youth Swim Lessons.
This drop-in class is great for adults who have a fear of the water, are new to swimming, or want to learn proper strokes and breathing, enabling them to swim for longer distances. Our swim instructors for these classes are trained specifically to teach adults beginner to intermediate swimming skills. We offer two groups each week, divided by skill level so we can be sure to offer the most appropriate level of instruction for each individual.
Gaga is coming to the Community Center! This incredibly popular sport is a fast paced, high energy, game played in an octagonal pit with a soft foam ball The gaga game combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Players need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by the ball. It’s seriously fun and your kids will get a serious work out!
With a firm focus on the techniques and form of classical ballet, classes aim to fire up young imaginations while teaching the fundamental elements of dance. The classes develop co-ordination and boost confidence but most importantly you can twirl, pirouette, plié, jeté and pointé your toes all day.
Students learn self-defense, focus, concentration and discipline in a non-contact weekly martial arts workout. Classes are grouped by age and belt level. All levels work on forms, and bag work - kicks, punches, blocks and footwork. Sparring begins at yellow belt. At the end of each semester, we have an exhibition and test, where students have an opportunity for belt advancement (by teacher recommendation). Registration required.
During designated Lap Swim hours, 2-4 lanes are reserved for Adult Lap Swimming. Please note: we do not guarantee lap lanes during Family Swim hours.
The Manhattan Youth Swim School offers small group lessons for children starting at 6th grade. Classes are taught by highly experienced, certified instructors. Children are placed into classes by age and ability (depending on the age and skill level of the swimmers). We offer classes for all swimming levels – from the inexperienced to advanced swimmers.
Your child will learn to jump, wiggle, skip and dance to new music and rhythms. Children develop a musical ear, coordination and self-esteem while bopping to the beats. Ages 12 months to 4 years.
Our Muscles gym classes will get kids moving, lifting, jumping and climbing their way to fun! Your children will develop a sense of self-awareness, balance and coordination while learning fun and exciting new skills! Ages 12 months to 4 years.
Our dance studio is open to members Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons! Little toddlers will have the opportunity to explore and practice balance and coordination using our gym equipment and props. Big kids can get their energy out and participate in different games each week such as soccer, basketball and dance. Parents can relax and socialize in this open class environment which means a less rigid weekend schedule!
Your children will be introduced to stretching, warm-up, and beginning tumbling skills through games, obstacle courses, body-movement activities, and one-on-one spot teaching. Please note that this is not a drop-off class - parents and caregivers are required to stay and help their children participate. Ages 12 months to 4 years.
Our Pool Sports and Games class offers older swimmers the opportunity to learn and play aquatic games. Come join our enthusiastic, certified swim instructors during these fun drop-in sessions featuring water polo, aqua-tag, sharks and minnows, treasure hunts, and more!

For two decades, Manhattan Youth has offered swim time for free to our neighborhood Senior Citizens. There is lap swim and general open pool time to relax, stretch, exercise, and to socialize with other neighborhood seniors. The warm water of our pool makes swimming a joy year round. Participants must be 65 years or older to register.

This class teaches safe and developmentally sound yoga poses, breath work, meditation and relaxation. Seniors build strength and flexibility and relieve tension and anxiety.
Our Tennis Aces participate in classes held at Spruce Street School. Instructors introduce children to the game of tennis in a fun and supportive way using scaled down courts and equipment. Classes will use a games based approach to tennis instruction while also stressing the continued development of not only tennis skills but also motor and athletic skills. Begins 11/1.
Our MY Tennis classes at the Downtown Community Center provide a fun environment that will help participants to establish a base for gross motor and athletic skill development. Instructors will use fun tennis games that not only teach kids how to throw, catch, and track balls, but also educate them on tennis specific rules and skills to help them learn the game. Begins 11/1.
The Downtown Community Center is proud to have its very own swim team! Practices are held multiple times per week, allowing swimmers to gain increased endurance, improve fitness and self-confidence, refine their stroke technique, and learn competitive skills and sportsmanship. Our coaching philosophy emphasizes our belief in self-competition and setting personal goals. The team’s home and competition site is the Downtown Community Center Pool. Please note that swimmers must demonstrate specific skill requirements to enroll.
This time with your child will help strengthen specific muscle groups infants need to roll over, sit and crawl. Provided baby friendly toys will establish the perfect encouragement for crawling, reaching and grabbing. Mats provide a soft and sanitary surface for your child to practice crawling. Ages 4-12 Months.
