We invite you to join us in caring for new generations of children, families and all of Lower Manhattan as we continue our second 25 years of service.
Today, our core programs serve more than 5,000 enrolees - children and adults - with an array of vital services, plus our Pier 25 programs serve thousands more. We care for more than 1,200 children just in our Manhattan Youth After-School Programs in seven Lower Manhattan public elementary and middle schools. We make classrooms in our Downtown Community Center available to PS 234 for to help relieve school overcrowding.
We are mindful of the needs of our families who are working as hard as they can to pay high rents and raise kids here. That's why we also work hard to keep costs down and why we provide ample assistance - an average of $370,000 per year - to low-income families and families who are going through crises such as job loss, divorce or loss of a loved one. That's in addition to $500,000 we spend on free programs for seniors, teens, and our whole community.
Today's baby strollers and K-5 school-kids soon will be pre-teens and teens. We are developing programs for these kids in our Downtown Community Center and Pier 25, plus we are bringing our programming on weekends to locations throughout Lower Manhattan. We are engaging young people with positive experiences while promoting healthy lifestyles, teaching good decision-making and encouraging emotional maturity.
We look forward to partnering with you as we meet the present and future challenges of caring for our community with high-quality programming, regardless of any family's financial situation.
